The American Festival Chorus was founded in the summer of 2008 with Dr. Craig Jessop as Artistic Director and Conductor, and Dr. Cory Evans as Associate Director. The American Festival Chorus brings together 250-300 talented singers from a 50-mile radius, including many students from the Music Department at Utah State University and several local high school choral conductors.

The professional American Festival Orchestra is composed of USU music faculty, outstanding musicians in the community and the Northern Utah region and select senior USU students Principal strings are the Fry Street Quartet, hailed in the New York Times as “a triumph of ensemble playing.”

 

Flash-Mob at the Mall

The American Festival Chorus surprised "Black Friday" shoppers with a short Christmas carol, flash-mob style.  The piece, Ding Dong Merrily on High, was specially arranged by Kurt Bestor for the choir.

The Black Friday craze turned a bit more enthusiastic at the Cache Valley Mall as about 150 people suddenly began performing a holiday song in front of an audience of nearly 1,000.

The song was an original arrangement of the English carol, “Ding Dong Merrily on High”, and took 100 people to produce, from dancers to musicians. This included the Westminster Bell Choir as well the Celtic Dancers of the Valley.
